Editorial Standards & Corrections

Mission
Lepingville publishes investigations, research, book reviews, and social/political commentary. Our goal is evidence-based reporting and clearly labeled opinion.

Sourcing & Verification

  • Primary materials first: public records, filings, transcripts, data, and on-the-record interviews where feasible.
  • Attribution: we link sources whenever possible and credit other outlets’ original work.
  • Anonymous sources: used sparingly, only with corroboration and a compelling public-interest rationale.
  • Conflicts: we disclose any material conflicts of interest relevant to an article.

Framing & Labels

  • News/Research: evidence-driven, methodology and limitations disclosed when relevant.
  • Analysis: interpretation of facts with reasoning laid out and sources cited.
  • Opinion/Commentary: clearly labeled as opinion.
  • Book Reviews: fair summary, quotations in context, and citation of editions where relevant.

Fairness

  • For investigations, we seek comment from subjects where feasible and allow reasonable time to respond.
  • We avoid misleading headlines and do not knowingly publish edited materials that distort meaning.

Visuals & AI

  • Images should be captioned and, when not original, attributed.
  • If AI tools assist with non-editorial tasks (e.g., transcription aids), editorial judgment and fact-checking remain human. We do not publish AI-generated text as reporting.

Corrections Policy

What qualifies

  • Correction: a factual error affecting accuracy.
  • Clarification: wording that could reasonably mislead.
  • Update: new information that advances the story without negating prior facts.
  • Editor’s Note: context on a significant methodological or ethical issue.

How we correct

  • We fix the text, add a dated correction note at the end of the article, and, if material, note the change at the top.
  • We preserve the substance of the original while making the record accurate.

How to request a correction

  • Email [email protected] with the URL, quoted passage, and supporting evidence. We aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe.
